Episode 50: Taylor Morgan, functional medicine physician associate, on why gut health really matters and what you can do to improve it

I’m back with episode 50! 5-0!!! Thank you all for listening and keeping this podcast going. Today’s guest is Taylor Morgan, functional medicine physician associate, and she just so happens to be my husband and my personal practitioner. Taylor Morgan works with the Taylor Dukes Wellness practice and we get a little glimpse into how she got into this field, and all things gut health. Taylor’s approach is realistic, super educational and informative and it’s something we all need to learn and/or be reminded of.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • her background and what she does as a PA

  • the differences between “functional medicine” vs “holistic medicine” vs “naturopathic doctor” vs “registered dietitian” vs “nutritionist” and who might need to see them

  • what gut health is and why it’s important

  • how gut health starts with the way you were born

  • how to tell if we have a gut issue and signs of a healthy gut

  • what she does with her patients to fix gut issues

  • foods that can improve gut health

  • & more

All about Taylor:

Taylor Morgan was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She graduated with special distinction from the University of Oklahoma’s Health Sciences Center with a bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science. At the beginning of her dietetic career, she quickly discovered her passion for functional medicine after it transformed her own life, helping her heal from years of hormonal imbalance, digestive, and thyroid issues. Taylor is dedicated to staying up to date on the latest evidence-based research in order to provide the best possible care for her patients. She has previously completed coursework through the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. She has also completed a graduate certificate program in Dietetics and Integrative Medicine through the University of Kansas Medical Center. She has obtained the credentials of Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner (IFNCP™) after completing a fifteen-month long intensive program through the Integrative and Functional Nutritional Academy™. Furthermore, she is currently undergoing certification to become an Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) Certified Practitioner (IFMCP™). Taylor has trained and worked with multiple functional medicine experts throughout her career thus far including a two time, New York Times best-selling author Dr. Amy Myers at her clinic in Austin, Texas. There, she helped care for patients from all over the world with very complex medical conditions, helping and supporting them on their path to healing and optimal health using a functional medical approach. While working in Austin, TX as Dr. Myer’s lead registered dietitian, Taylor felt called to expand her scope of practice in order to better help her patients. She thus decided to embark on her journey to become a physician associate specializing in functional and integrative medicine. She has since graduated with highest honors from Oklahoma City University’s Master of Physician Assistant Studies program and has been serving her patients as a functional medicine PA-C and RDN. With over eight years of experience in the functional medicine field, she loves partnering with and serving her patients using this approach. She is truly passionate about helping others find healing and improve their health as well as quality of life through functional medicine.
